Big Jim Wright
1934-2008
His last race is run - his final lap completed, taking the checkered flag in victory on Friday, April 25, 2008. Jim
is now with Jesus, surrounded by his family and friends who have gone on before.
Jim was a master machinist, mechanic and engine builder. He demonstrated his talent by building winning race engines
in multiple venues: three wins in the Indianapolis 500, Trans-Am, NHRA championships, drag boat racing, USAC Silver Crown,
Sprint and Midget cars as well as off-road and sports car series. In addition to wins
and championships his engines broke various records and he was proud of building qualifying engines for Dale Earnhardt
Sr. in the NASCAR series for two seasons.Throughout his career he remained quick to share credit for successes and create
opportunity for others.
Although Jim's passion for racing was immense, it did not surpass his love of people. He never met a stranger, always
had a new joke to share and he generally spread joy and laughter through all fifty states, New Zealand, and Australia. He
was always ready to go, do, see or try something new.Jim's life was a constant adventure that swept up all who knew and loved
him.
Jim is survived by his wife Lynn, three daughters - Teresa Howatt, Staci Nunnally and Debbie Burdick and two step-sons
- Jim and Jerry Stalians, eleven grandchildren, four great-grand children, and two great-great grandchildren.
Jim, you will be greatly missed by all who knew you. Thank you for loving us all so well and giving us a lifetime
of memories.
